Twelve Rules of Christmas

(Compiled by attorneys for The Rutherford Institute)

Unfortunately, Christmas has become a time of controversy over what can or cannot be done in terms of celebrating the holiday. In order to clear up much of the misunderstanding, the following twelve rules are offered:

  1. Public school students’ written or spoken personal expressions concerning the religious significance of Christmas (e.g., T-shirts with the slogan, “Jesus Is the Reason for the Season”) may not be censored by school officials absent evidence that the speech would cause a substantial disruption.(i)

Evolutionary ‘Game Changer’ Doesn’t Change Anything

Widespread news reports recently proclaimed that a collection of primate fossils discovered in a collapsed cave in South Africa just might be an evolutionary “game changer.” ABC News reported that this creature, called Australopithecus sediba, “could be a key link in the process of evolution that led to modern human beings.” One headline read, “Rethinking Human Origins: Fossils Reveal a New Ancestor on the Family Tree.” But none of these claims is true, and it’s relatively easy to understand why. First Phase Complete in Human and Chimp Genome-Wide DNA Comparison

The ICR life sciences team has been conducting a large-scale comparison project of human versus chimp DNA sequence, the first phase of which has now been completed. The research involved the use of 40,000 purportedly random chimpanzee DNA sequences obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology that were produced as part of the chimpanzee genome project.1, 2 The sequences, on average, were 740 nucleotides each and were compared to four different versions of the human genome that were each ~3 billion bases. The DNA sequences were compared using a commonly employed algorithm called BLASTN. Read the full article on ICR’s website.

Financial Seminar

10/2/2011, Clarksburg – Christian Apostolic Church hosts a Christian seminar on personal finances, with special guest speaker, Rev. John F. Harrison, founder of Aspire Financial Advisors and author of “Making Mammon Serve You.” He is an ordained minister and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). John has over 20 years of experience in financial services and over 17 years of experience as an active ordained minister. Being a CFP means that he has met the rigorous requirements of the CFP Board of Standards in the areas of education, experience, examination, and ethics. He also holds several securities registrations, including the Series 7 (General Securities) and Series 65 (Investment Advisor). John’s dual vocations help him appreciate the realities of Christian financial planning from the perspective of both the pulpit and the pew. Many years of preaching and teaching have helped him develop as an educational speaker, fueling his drive to make complex concepts understandable, interesting, and actionable. Whether teaching a financial seminar for 200 people in a church, or talking one-on-one in his office, John’s goal is to separate the things people need to know from the things that are merely nice to know and to transfer his understanding of key principles to his listeners.

Public Schools: Key Site for ‘Soft Jihad’

Pull-out quote from the article:

In some instances students have been required to participate in learning activities in which they pretend they’re Muslims, wear Islamic garb, memorize verses from the Quran, pray to Allah, and even play “jihad games.”

The followers of Mohammed have a long tradition of taking the children of Christians and indoctrinating them to become fanatical soldiers. Called “Janissaries” (new soldiers), these children — as Dr. D. James Kennedy explained in his sermon “Training Your Children” — “had been taken as young children and had been taught the doctrines of Mohammedanism, and when they grew older, they were taught the arts of warfare.” In 1453, when Constantinople was sacked, 20,000 of these children of Christians, turned into rapacious warriors, led the charge.

When Dr. Kennedy preached his sermon in 1993, he used the example of the Jannisaries to show how humanist teaching was carrying away the children of Christians. In 2011, we are beginning to see the earlier history of the Jannisaries being repeated as children in public schools are now being “taught the doctrines of Mohammedanism,” while their own Christian religion is defamed.

Bill Would Protect Home Schoolers’ Records

Republican Congressman Randy Hultgren of Illinois has introduced a bill that would give greater protection to the education records of home schoolers. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) currently protects the privacy of student records for those who attend schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. It gives certain rights that transfer to “eligible students” when they reach the age of 18 or attend school beyond the high school level. However, since home schoolers are not covered by that measure, Representative Hultgren sees room for correction. Read more (full article on OneNewsNow.com).
